Find your space in one of the most interesting and distinctive buildings in Indianapolis. In its youth, this 1907 structure served as a church hall and was eventually Indiana’s first Goodwill store before being converted to a community center, complete with a second-floor basketball court that was practice space for the Indiana Pacers of the early ABA.

Deylen has respectfully transformed this truly one-of-a-kind building into 8 urban lofts. The two-bedroom upstairs lofts were built on the basketball court, preserving the maple hardwood court and the high ceilings, for a look and ambience you’ll find nowhere else.

THE MURPHY ARTS CENTER I INDIANAPOLIS, IN

In the Heart of Fountain Square.

CREATIVE SPACE I 57,000 SF OFFICE/RETAIL

 

The Deylen family of companies undertook the Murphy Art Center project back in 2009. It is a 57,000 square foot mixed-use commercial building with 27 tenants, including three restaurants, a concert and special events venue, offices, artists and non-profit organizations. If something is happening in Fountain Square, it’s a good bet that it’s happening at the Murphy. 

Originally built in the mid-1880s and 1920s, the Murphy Art Center comprises two buildings, one a commercial storefront with lodging on the second floor; the other a vaudeville movie house. In 1951, the G.C. Murphy Company purchased both structures. In 1998, the Murphy Store ceased operations. The buildings were turned over to a local community development corporation for renovation into a center for the arts and business with retail spaces along Virginia Avenue. It flourished based upon owner-occupancy, but by 2006, began to decline. Deylen rescued the building from foreclosure in September 2009.
